my 9 year old is overweight -- help

Post a new topicby mammamo on Tue Nov 10, 2009 3:10 pm

My 9 year old daughter is overweight. I was watching Dr. Phil the other day and saw a little girl that reminded me so much of my daughter. She would eat and eat, but never feel full! There was some sort of problem with her insulin. The Dr on the show said she didn't have diabetes, but she would develop it in a few years if this was not looked into. Somehow, her body did not know how to process her sugar or insulin or something and it would just automatically store it as body fat. And something about with this condition, your stomach is unable to send the message to the brain that it is full. Anyway, we have tried everything with her, i follow a strict low carb diet, so my family eats grilled chicken or fish, turkey burgers, lots of protien and dark green veggies, salads ... she eats healthy. She gets some exercise, but struggles with asthma, so exercise comes in spurts. I have been round and round with her pediatrician regarding her asthma and I don't want to take her to him with this issue. He seems to blow a lot of things off, which is why I am in the process of getting another Dr for her. I feel like she needs to have blood work done. My grandmother suggested an internalist? Any ideas of where I should begin to have her checked? Thanks ...
