Aplasia Cutis COngenita is seen in 1 in 3000 births and is usually inherited from a parent. It is a failure of the skin to properly close in the area. Parts of the skin may be missing and so when it heals, a sunken in region is seen. It is typically one half to one inch on the back of the scalp.
