Molluscum contagiosum

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Jul 12, 2001 3:32 am

I contracted Molluscum contagiosum, I believe, while I was working on a sewer pipe crew around raw sewage last summer. My gynecologist said that she had another patient that caught this same disease from a swimming pool ( children's swim lessons )She then burnt off the existing molluscs( very painful)with acid only to have them come right back. I dont wish to go through that again, as this happened last December and I am still healing from the Ordeal I have purple scars still where she burnt them off. Is there a milder, although slower treatment such as a topical ointment or perhaps some regimen of a systemic nature that I can use to remove these Pests from my person ? they are really quite embarassing and are not condusive to feeling great about myself and they are growing in number please reply.

First of all, they are not living animals on/in your skin. It is a virus, similar to a wart virus. You can get a prescription for a cream called Aldara. It was FDA approved for genital warts but works on molluscum as well as other things as well. I recommend that you see a dermatologist, who deals with molluscum on a daily basis and can inform you of your treatment options. Sometimes I scrape them off in adults. The healing is a week or two.
