    Hidradenitis - Treatment, Prevention

    Treatment for Hidradenitis

Hidradenitis suppurativa is very difficult to treat. For mild to moderate cases, dermatologists first attempt therapy topically, such as with benzoyl peroxide and a topical retinoid. Simple cases can be treated with moist heat or incision and drainage of the abscesses.

My daughter, age 22, has dealt with this since she was twelve. It is most severe in her inner thighs close to her vagina. She has fallen off my health insurance now at age 22 and therefore I took out the college insurance through United Healthcare. I understood that she had prescription coverage but have since received a denial on the prescription claims which totaled $500 for this condition. Their exclusions say: No benefits will be paid for: a) loss or expense caused by, contributed to, or resulting from, or b) treatment, services or supplies for, at, or related to: 1) acne. Of course, there are other things listed as well. In the denial letter it qualifies it as a remark 184 - Policy excludes treatment for acne. Can anyone tell me if I have any recourse or can I fight this? Should I accept this and just find a new insurance for her?
