Very Discouraging

Post a new topicby andie on Sat Oct 27, 2007 6:14 pm

I have become very discouraged by reading the post on alopecia areata.......I first noticed a bald spot in July and it has progressively gotten worse.....I went to a derm in Sept. and got the steriod foam for the top I have taken BIotin from July on and Evening Primrose Oil as I read they would help.......I work for a physician and we had checked my blood for anemia and I already am treated for Thyroid so it wasnt related to those things the only blood work out of whack was my ANA which was eleveated which is indictive for lupus or reuhmatiod arthritis..........which I havent followed up....I firsts tried the fluicinolone on my patches before I went to the derm.....the first things he asked was if I had a lot of emotional stress going on.........I have always had lots of stress in my life .....the other was if I had had any medication changes........the only med I take is synthroid ........but I had stopped my vitamins about 8 months prior....... this year I am going through menopause I don't eat right.....hardly ever any meats.....may be a nab and a small frozen dinner or a peanut butter sandwich or egg sandwich with lots of Mt. Dew.......so I feel that nutrition or a lack of has contributed to the cause......for lack of what has..........at any rate.......my physician has offered to inject the cortisone but I have put him off as I don't think he has the patience to inject all the areas that would need it...........I did just this week start the prednisione hi dose by mouth to see if that would help and resorted to wearing a wig..........I thought about the minoxidil.........but hate the thoughts of doing that the rest of my life..........Is that what any body out there is doing and does it work??? do you get hair back enough to be worth the twice a day application???? and too its rather expensive....

From these post you guys have had it longer than me and have tried the injections that don't sound like theyve done much good..........anybody had success..............it all sounds so discouraging.............and finally last week I resorted to wearing a wig.........I tried to think of it as how lucky I was not to have to worry about fixing my hair just plop on a wig........and can have a different style at the wink of an eye...........but I don't think its helping too much........
